WellPoint Announces East Region Lineup

A managed care giant has named the executives who will run its operations on the East Coast.

The company, WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, recently expanded its East Coast business by completing the acquisition of WellChoice Inc., New York, the company that holds the Blue Cross and Blue Shield licenses for the New York City area.

WellPoint has started the integration process by setting up a new East region that will include the WellChoice operations in New York as well as operations that WellPoint already has owned in Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, New Hampshire and Virginia.

Dr. Michael Stocker, who has been president of WellChoice, will be the president of the new East region.

Here is a list of the other top WellPoint East region executives:

- Dijuana Lewis will be president of the Northeast markets division, which will include Connecticut, Maine and New Hampshire. Lewis has been running WellPoint’s Northeast region since August 2005.

- Tom Byrd will be president of the Virginia market. Byrd has been running WellPoint’s Virginia operations since May 2005.

- Caz Matthews will be president of the Georgia market. Matthews has been running WellPoint’s Georgia operations since December 2004.

- Jason Gorevic will be president of the New York market. Gorevic previously was the chief sales and marketing officer at WellChoice.

WellPoint also has named Gloria McCarthy chief operating officer of the East Region and Trevor Reeves the region’s chief financial officer.

McCarthy has been the chief operating officer at WellChoice, and Reeves has been the CFO for WellPoint’s Northeast region.
