NU Online News Service, Oct. 9, 1:19 p.m. – Health maintenance organizations continue to lose ground in Illinois, according to a new report on the Illinois managed care market by Allen Baumgarten, a Minneapolis researcher.

Total Illinois HMO enrollment has fallen to 2.1 million, down from 2.4 million in 2000, and only one HMO continues to serve Chicago-area Medicare beneficiaries, Baumgarten says.

But average monthly premium revenue for commercial HMO members increased 9.7% between 2000 and 2001, to $155.72, Baumgarten says.

Baumgarten also publishes market studies on managed care markets in California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas.
