Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Minneapolis, has raised a total of $7.5 million to help victims of the earthquakes and tsunamis that struck South Asia in December 2004.[@@]

Thrivent and an affiliate offered to donate a total of $5 million in matching funds and other funds if fraternal members donated $2.5 million of their own money by April 15. Members met the matching program goal Feb. 25, Thrivent reports.

Relief agencies have used much of the money that Thrivent already has donated to provide clean water, food, shelter and basic supplies for disaster survivors, and the agencies will use the rest of the money to run longer-term reconstruction programs, Thrivent says.
