Investors using Charles Schwab’s thinkorswim reported problems using the trading platform early Monday.
Outage monitoring site Downdetector logged over 120 problem reports as the trading day got underway, with 90% related to login, according to posted data. The number slipped below 100 shortly before 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
A Schwab spokesperson told ThinkAdvisor by email: “We are aware of a very small subset of clients having issues accessing thinkorswim desktop. As an alternative, clients can log in to the thinkorswim mobile, thinkorswim web or Schwab.com. Please accept our apologies as we resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
On X, formerly Twitter, several users reported trouble logging in to or using thinkorswim, which Schwab took over as part of its TD Ameritrade acquisition. At least one Schwab client did report that the matter had been resolved.

“Just got through to Customer Service. They've done another update to fix the problem. Close out TOS completely and try to log in again. There's another very new update and I can now get in,” one X user posted at 9:45 a.m. EST.
A few minutes later, another user posted: “#thinkorswim becoming unbearable at market opens now. Just will not open daily charts without a massive lag.”
Another user at 9 a.m. posted what appeared to be a largely black screenshot, explaining, “This is all I get when trying to log into thinkorswim. Either TOS has an issue, or my computer is officially too old to run their update.”
“Thinkorswim is down or login page stalled, what's brewing? #Schwab #Thinkorswim,” another posted.
Customers also reported glitches with the platform a few times last year.
