TD Ameritrade clients complained on social media that the trading platform wasn’t working as stocks slid Wednesday.

“Hey everyone, just a heads up that TD Ameritrade seems to be experiencing some technical issues. Not sure why, but their platform is currently down,” one user on X, formerly Twitter, posted in the afternoon.

“Markets tanking & the TD Ameritrade app is down,” posted another, who included a screenshot showing a failed log-in message.

Another complained their “positions” and “watchlist” page on the TD Ameritrade website had been down most of the day.

Sometime after 3:30, one user reported the platform was working again for him.

Monitoring website Downdetector indicated 355 problem reports shortly after 3 p.m. Eastern time, although 15 minutes later the number had slid to 93.

“This is a bummer!” one user there posted.

The S&P 500 was down 1.32% at 3:40 p.m., while the Nasdaq was down 2.34% around the same time.

A Schwab spokesperson provided the following statement to ThinkAdvisor shortly after 4 p.m.: “Some clients may have difficulty logging in to the TDA Mobile app due to a technical issue. As an alternative, clients can log in to TDAmeritrade.com or thinkorswim for any trading need. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologize to our clients for any inconvenience.”
