What You Need to Know

  • The California Association of Health Underwriters is now California Agents & Health Insurance Professionals.
  • The group's preferred acronym has changed to CAHIP, from CAHU.
  • The group rebranded itself after members and lawmakers said the word

The California Association of Health Underwriters has changed its name to California Agents & Health Insurance Professionals.

The Sacramento-based group’s preferred acronym has changed to CAHIP, from CAHU.

CAHIP helps 1,600 California health insurance agents, brokers and advisors work with the state’s lawmakers and health insurance regulators.

The group says it rebranded after members and lawmakers told it that use of the word “underwriter” in the old name was confusing.

CAHIP continues to be part of the National Association of Health Underwriters, a health agent and broker group based in Washington.

Brad Davis, CAHIP’s president, noted that members sell a wide range of health insurance products, including vision care plans and dental insurance plans, as well as major medical insurance.

For now, the group is keeping its website at http://www.cahu.org.
