What You Need to Know

  • Participants should send in a personal photo of a treasured moment.
  • The entry should include the story about why the moment matters.
  • Illinois Mutual will recognize the winners by making donations to charity on their behalf.

Illinois Mutual Life Insurance Company is bringing its “Moments Matter” photo contest — and agents and policyholders can participate, along with company employees, company retirees and members of the general public.

The Peoria, Illinois-based company is asking people to send in a personal photo of a treasured moment in time, along with an explanation of why that moment matters, from June 7 through June 25.

When people submit photos, they’re also supposed to name their favorite charity.

From June 30 through July 18, participants are supposed to vote on their favorite photo submissions.

Once the voters choose the winners, Illinois Mutual will make contributions to each winner’s favorite charity. The prize contributions will range from $200 donations for contestants in sixth through 10th place up to $1,500 for the first-place winner.

Illinois Mutual has been running the contest since 2005. Originally, it used the photos to create printed wall calendars. One of the winners in the wall calendar era showed a cow looking gently at two toddlers.

Illinois Mutual switched to an all-digital format in 2014.

Katie McCord Jenkins, Illinois Mutual’s president, said in a comment that the company is excited to be offering the contest again.

“Supporting and uplifting our community is essential now more than ever,” Jenkins said.
