Greenberg Traurig Hires Former New York Regulator: Personnel Moves

Greenberg Traurig LLP — a big law firm — has brought Laura Evangelista in as a government law and policy practice shareholder.

She will work in New York City and in Albany, New York.

Evangelista previously was the executive deputy superintendent for insurance at the New York State Department of Financial Services. She began working for the New York department in 2016, after working as a commercial litigator.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a law degree from Hofstra University.

Pan-American Life Insurance Group has hired Miguel Edwards to be senior vice president – chief information officer.

Edwards will be part of the New Orleans-based carriers’ executive committee.

He previously was the chief information officer at Kemper Insurance.

He has a bachelor’s degree in business from the Metropolitan College of New York and a master’s degree in business from Rider University.

The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company has promoted Lisa Davis to managing partner of its Philadelphia agency, 1847Financial.

Davis has been the agency’s managing director since 2015. She began working there in 2012.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Cornell and a master’s degree from the American College of Financial Services.

Penn Mutual is based in Horsham, Pennsylvania.

Lincoln Financial Group has hired Joseph Weider to be senior vice president of information technology infrastructure.

He previously was global head of cloud transformation at American International Group Inc.

He also has worked in IT at banks such as First Citizens and BB&T.

Lincoln is based in Radnor, Pennsylvania.

MetLife Inc. has named Toby Srihiran Brown to be chief auditor.

Brown has been chief operating officer at the New York-based company’s MetLife Japan unit since 2016. He joined MetLife in 2010, when MetLife acquired ALICO from AIG.

He has a master’s degree in business from Manchester Business School, and he holds Chartered Accountant status in the United Kingdom.

EverQuote Inc., an online insurance supermarket company, has hired David Brainard to be executive vice president of engineering, marketplace.

Brainard has worked for Liberty Mutual.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in business from Boston University.

EverQuote is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Aflac Inc. has announced three executive promotions.

The Columbus, Georgia-based company has promoted James Hennessy to senior vice president of pre-sales operations and Aflac group operations, from vice president of strategic asset management.

The company has also promoted Jeramy Tipton to senior vice president, distribution expansion and consumer markets, from a role leading the product development, technology and operations for an Aflac consumer market initiative.

The company has promoted Shannon Watkins to senior vice president, brand and creative services, from vice president, brand and creative services.
