State lawmakers with an interest in insurance have named Louisiana state Sen. Dan "Blade" Morrish to be their 2018-2019 president.

The Lake Charles, Louisiana, Republican has been serving as a state legislator since 1996. He is now the business manager at Lake Charles Pilots, according to his state Senate biography. In the past, he worked as a marine underwriter at the Insurance Company of North America.

Morrish is a member of the Louisiana Senate Insurance Committee, and the chairman of the Education Committee.

Because of term limits, Morrish will leave the state Senate at the end of 2019.

Morrish succeeded Arkansas state Sen. Jason Rapert, who is also a Republican.

NCOIL said one of Morrish's priorities will be keeping international agreements from weakening the state-based U.S. insurance regulation.

Morrish said he also hopes to expand NCOIL's educational offerings, by adding a track aimed at legislative staff.

NCOIL also named Indiana state Rep. Matt Lehman vice president; California state Assemblymember Kenneth Cooley, treasurer; and New York state Assemblymember Kevin Cahill, secretary, according to NCOIL.

Tom Considine continues to be NCOIL's chief executive officer.
