Drew Bowden is taking over from Kevin Kennedy as the chair of the Insured Retirement Institute board.
IRI is a Washington-based trade group for companies in the retirement income industry.

Bowden, who previously was IRI’s vice chair, is the general counsel at Jackson National Life Insurance Company.
Bowden has a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College n Maryland and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He worked at a law firm, then entered the financial services industry in 1994, as a deputy general counsel for Legg Mason.
From 2011 through 2015, Bowden worked for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. When he left, he was the director of the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations.
Bowden moved from the SEC to Jackson National, which is based in Lansing, Michigan, in 2015.
