David Levenson, a principal at Edward Jones who was once a senior executive at Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., will be succeeding Robert Kerzner as president of LL Global Inc. Jan. 1, 2019.

Kerzner, the former head of Hartford's individual life division, has been leading LIMRA, one of the two financial organizations that are part of LL Global, since 2004.

What is LL Global?

LL Global is a nonprofit organization based in Windsor Connecticut.

It serves as the parent organization both for LIMRA and for LOMA.

Levenson is on track to be the president of LIMRA and LOMA as well as of LL Global, according to LL Global.

LIMRA, which was once known as  the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association, is descended from an organization founded in 1916. LIMRA conducts research of interest to companies in the life insurance, annuity and retirement services markets.

LOMA, which was once known as the Life Office Management Association, was founded in 1924. LOMA helps life insurers and other financial services companies improve their management and operations, through operations research and training programs.

LIMRA and LOMA merged in 2008. They set up LL Global to serve as an umbrella organization for both associations.

The Internal Revenue Service classifies LL Global as a 501(c)(6) business league, according to Charity Navigator.

LL Global reported having $59 million in assets and $50 million in annual revenue in a tax form filed in December 2017, according to Charity Navigator.

Why do LIMRA and LOMA matter to agents?

LIMRA studies have a big effect on what financial services companies sell, and stop selling; who they try to approach; and how they sell.

LOMA studies and training programs have a big effect on how financial services company managers run their operations.

Who is David Levenson?

David Levenson has a bachelor's degree in finance and actuarial science from the University of Pennsylvania's business school, according to his LinkedIn entry.

He also has a master's degree in business at Columbia University's business school and a doctorate in international business strategy from Hitotsubashi University's business school.

He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst and Fellow, Society of Actuaries professional designations.

Levenson worked as an actuary, at Hewitt Associates and at Aetna Life and Casualty, from 1988 through 1994, then worked as an executive at Hartford from 1995 through 2012. For almost three years, he was president of Hartford Life Insurance KK in Japan.

Levenson has been a principal at Edward Jones since 2012.
