One weird way to boost sales of life insurance and supplemental insurance products this year might be to find products that appeal to people born in 1990.

The Census Bureau has reported, in a newly released population estimates spreadsheet, that, in 2017, the United States continued to have more residents born in 1990 than in other single year.

Immigration helped increase the estimated number of U.S. residents born in 1990 to 4.79 million in 2017, from 4.76 million in 2016. People born in 1990 were 27 in 2017. This year, they’re turning 28.

The number of U.S. residents born in 1989 and 1991 is also very high — over 4.7 million.

For all birth years before 1989 and after 1994, the number of U.S. residents born in each year is under 4.5 million.

Because of a combination of changes in the birth rate and in immigration patterns, for example, the United States has just 3.97 million residents who were born in 2016.

Financial professionals who want to sell annuities and other products popular with older consumers might want to target consumers ages 54 to 58: The number of U.S. residents at each of those ages is at least 4.4 million.

The single-year-of-age population is under 4 million for each age from 41 to 45, and also for each age of 64 ord older.
