New Hire Roundup: Northern Trust Welcomes Marsh

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Michael Marsh joined Northern Trust; Thompson, Siegel & Walmsley announced several changes in leadership; Anne Sutherland joined Ballard Spahr; LIMRA hired Dr. Betty Moon to head its banking research unit; and Evanston Capital Management brought in Lance Donenberg.

Also, Annex Wealth Management welcomed Richard Behrendt; Dodie Kent joined Sutherland; Windhaven Investment Management brought in Christian Menegatti; and U.S. Bank Wealth Management added Thanh Nguyen.

Northern Trust Welcomes Marsh

Northern Trust has announced that Michael Marsh has joined its foundation and institutional advisory services practice serving the eastern region of the U.S. as senior vice president and senior wealth strategist responsible for new business development in the mid-Atlantic region. He is based in Washington, D.C., and will report to James Tucker, eastern region managing director of the practice.

Marsh joins with more than 18 years of investment management experience. Previously, he served as the director of nonprofit investment services for Rockefeller & Co. Before entering the financial services industry, he served as a Jesuit; a professor of management; a consultant to refugee and disaster relief agencies globally; an ESL instructor for the United Nations; and a VISTA volunteer.

Thompson, Siegel & Walmsley Make Leadership Changes

Thompson, Siegel & Walmsley has announced that Horace Whitworth, currently co-chief executive officer, will be sole CEO going forward. Lawrence Gibson, currently co-CEO with Whitworth, will step down from that position but remain chairman of the board of managers. Frank Reichel, currently chief investment officer, will be promoted to president; he will be succeeded by Brett Hawkins. Roger Porter will join Reichel as co-portfolio manager. Lori Anderson, currently director of operations, and John Reifsnider, director of business operations, have been named to the board of managers.

Whitworth has been with the firm for 28 years, Gibson for 14. Reichel is a 14-year veteran of the firm and has 28 years of investment experience. Hawkins has been with the firm for 13 years and has 16 years of investment experience. Porter is a six-year veteran of the firm and a research analyst with 20 years of portfolio management and research experience. Anderson joined the firm in 1978. Reifsnider joined the firm in 2005.

Sutherland Joins Ballard Spahr

Attorney Anne Sutherland has joined Ballard Spahr as counsel in the mortgage banking and consumer financial services groups.

Sutherland brings more than 20 years of experience, both in-house as general counsel and chief compliance officer for several national mortgage banking companies as well as in private practice.

LIMRA Adds Moon

LIMRA has hired Dr. Betty Moon to be the next managing director of Bank Insurance and Securities Research Associates (BISRA), a collaborative effort between the Bank Insurance and Securities Association (BISA) and LIMRA. She replaces Scott Stathis, who led BISRA since its inception and its predecessor, Kehrer-LIMRA. Stathis has agreed to stay through the end of 2014 to ensure a smooth transition.

Most recently, Moon worked for Infosys Limited, a global technology and consulting company, as North America banking and investments group executive. Evanston Capital Management Welcomes Donenberg

Evanston Capital Management has announced that Lance Donenberg has been hired as principal and head of strategic business development.

Donenberg joined from Man Group plc, where he served as co-head of North America and head of business development. Previously, he served as head of sourcing and as a member of the investment committee for Glenwood Capital, a division of Man Investments. Prior to Glenwood, he was a cofounder and head of business development for Balyasny Asset Management, and earlier was a portfolio manager at Schonfeld Securities.

Annex Wealth Management Hires Behrendt

Annex Wealth Management has announced that Richard Behrendt, J.D., has joined as director of estate planning services.

Behrendt previously served as SVP, director of estate planning for Robert W. Baird & Co., based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Before that, he spent 12 years as an estate tax attorney for the IRS.

Kent Joins Sutherland

Sutherland Asbill and Brennan LLP has announced that Dodie Kent has joined the firm’s insurance and financial services practice as partner in New York.

With more than 20 years of experience as corporate counsel in the financial services industry, Kent was previously associate general counsel at AXA Equitable.

Windhaven Adds Menegatti

Windhaven Investment Management Inc., a subsidiary of the Charles Schwab Corp., has hired Christian Menegatti as chief investment strategist. He will also join the Windhaven investment committee, which will continue to be chaired by Liz Ann Sonders. It was also announced that longtime employee and current chief investment strategist DeFred “Fritz” Folts will be retiring at the end of the year. Folts and Menegatti will serve as co-chief investment strategists until that time.

For the past nine years, Menegatti was managing director and global head of research at Roubini Global Economics. Previously, he spent three years as a research scholar at New YorkUniversity’s department of economics.

Nguyen Joins Private Client Reserve in Denver

U.S. Bank Wealth Management has announced that Thanh Nguyen has joined the Private Client Reserve in Denver as vice president, private banker.

Nguyen began her career in the banking and financial services industry in 1998. Prior to joining, she held the position of private banker at Front Range Bank.
