LTCI Watch: Change

Your article was successfully shared with the contacts you provided.

The world is changing, the U.S. insurance markets are changing, and, of course, Web and e-mail insurance news organizations are changing along with the markets they cover.

Summit Business Media — the company that publishes National Underwriter Life & Health, Senior Market Advisor, Life Insurance Selling, the website and the LTCI Insider e-mail newsletter — is converting the LTCI Insider newsletter into the Health Insurance Insider newsletter.

Of course, if you’re living and breathing long-term care insurance (LTCI), that might sting.

No matter why you got involved with LTCI, once you’re involved with it, you get it. You know that, when you sell the right product from the right company to the right client, there is no higher act of commercial loving kindness that you can perform.

You may hope that your clients eat properly, exercise, take their meds, and never file claims, but, if they file claims, and if everything with the claim goes right, then the LTCI policy involved may make the difference between a family suffering financial stress on top of emotional stress, under the worst possible circumstances, and a family that can get through the emotional stress without having to agonize about money.

The Health Insurance Insider newsletter will still focus heavily on LTCI because, really, LTCI is what much of U.S. health care will be when U.S. health care grows up. Time’s wing’ed chariot is flying many of us toward old old age lickety split.

But, one problem with the LTCI Insider format is that we ended up having a huge number of newsletter slots for LTCI stories every week,

I found myself scrounging for too many stories about the Japanese government LTCI system and having too little time to give the U.S. disability insurance, critical illness insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance and hospital indemnity insurance markets the level of attention that they deserve.

My hope is that the new Health Insurance Insider newsletter will contain most of the stories that you actually would have clicked on in 2012, along with major medical and non-medical health insurance stories that will get your mouse finger clicking more than the stories about the Japanese LTCI system generally did.
