The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) has certified a batch of electronic health records (EHRs) under a new standards program.

CCHIT, Chicago, is certifying the EHRs under its new Long Term and Post Acute Care (LTPAC) certification program.

CCHIT, a nonprofit group, says the EHR standards cover EHR functionality, interoperability, and security. Certifiers are supposed to verify that an EHR is being used successfully at a live site.

The LTC products are now certified Answers HER, by AOD Software, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Answers EHR, and version 7.1.10 of HealthMEDX Vision, by HealthMEDX Inc., Ozark, Mo., HealthMEDX Vision.

CCHIT officials say adopting the LTPAC standards can help LTC providers work more closely with hospitals and participate in new types of health care organizations, such as accountable care organizations.

CCHIT also offers special EHR certification programs for cardiovascular medicine, child health, emergency departments, behavioral health, dermatology, oncology and clinical research.
