New York Hosts International Corporate Philanthropy Day

The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), founded in 1999 by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and other business leaders, will host International Corporate Philanthropy Day (ICPD), events on in New York Monday, including the sixth annual Board of Boards CEO Conference at The McGraw-Hill Companies, where “over 70 leading global CEOs,” are expected, an announcement Monday stated. At least 20 Fortune 500 or Global 500 CEOs are expected to attend.

President Barack Obama wrote a letter to business leaders in recognition of ICPD, saying, "By offering their skills, time, financial support, and creativity to causes greater than themselves, generous corporate philanthropists strengthen our communities and enrich our lives."

"We are encouraged to see so many member companies spearheading strategic corporate giving initiatives and partnerships again this year," noted Charles H. Moore, executive director of CECP. "Furthermore, the 2011 Board of Boards CEO Conference has record attendance, including delegations of CEOs from China and the Arabian Gulf. Together, these business leaders will explore how companies can implement strategies that positively impact their companies' bottom line while simultaneously addressing a societal need."

This year’s theme for the Board of Boards event will be "Business at its Best: Maximizing Long-Term Profitability and Societal Impact." Accenture’s Chairman, William Green, and Indra Nooyi, chairman and CEO of  PepsiCo, will lead the discussion. Journalist Charlie Rose will moderate, and Lloyd Blankfein, chairman and CEO of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., will give a luncheon address.
