There were more high-income taxpayers in 2007 than the year before, according to a new report from the Internal Revenue Service.

Taxpayers filed over 4.5 million high-income individual income tax returns with adjusted gross income of $200,000 or more for 2007, the latest year for which the IRS has compiled data.

That was up from over 4 million such returns in 2006, IRS says in its Spring 2010 Statistics of Income Bulletin. The latest number represents a little over 3% of all returns filed for 2007, the agency says.
