Investors appear to be surprisingly optimistic considering the recent economic tailspin, something that should scare the hell out of all of us. According to a recent survey by Allianz Global Investors, 78 percent of investors expect their standard of living in retirement to be the same or better than it is now.

A (small) silver lining? Despite potential over-confidence, most investors recognize that they need help. Fifty-five percent say it’s more important than ever to consult a financial planner. Seventy-two percent said they want to learn more about how to generate income in retirement, and 62 percent want help making sure they don’t outlive the assets they have already accumulated.

“We believe that there is a historic opportunity for advisors to focus their clients on a more realistic retirement vision and a more practical path to achieving it,” said Brian Gaffney, CEO of Allianz Global Investors Distributors. “The good news is that when it comes to some of the overarching issues that will impact their retirement security, investors want to learn more and are looking to advisors for help.”
