Even when boomer parents recognize the importance of saving for their children’s college education, it’s not easy to get them to act. Some need an extra push. Well, Congress may have provided part of that push. This will mark the sixth year that September has been recognized as College Savings Month, as declared by a House resolution in October 2003, with a big push from the College Savings Plans Network.

The College Savings Plan Network’s Web site (www.collegesavings.org) has plenty of material for advisors to use when helping parents look at college costs and savings. There’s a 529 classroom with 529 explanations, a FAQ, a college cost calculator and much more. It also has links to each state’s plan(s) and information even seasoned advisors may find helpful. Savingforcollege.com and Solutionsfortuition.com are other sites that can help advisors and parents alike.
