Since December 2008:

o 12 fixed indexed annuity companies have either left the annuity business or have gone into rehabilitation
o Sales of variable annuities have decreased while sales of fixed annuities have increased
o Some of the top 10 index writers have pulled back from the market or capped sales for 2009
