A new guide from Des Moines, Iowa-based The Principal Financial Group is designed to help employers review their retirement plans during the current financial crisis.

"Navigating Your Way through Market Turbulence," a PDF that can be downloaded from www.principal.com/research, is the latest in a series of educational resources for financial professionals and employers that are also available for download at the same site, including white papers on investment committee best practices and automatic enrollment.

The latest report explores how recent market volatility may be affecting four common retirement plan types: Defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. The guide offers action steps to consider for each plan type.

Dennis Long, VP, Retirement and Investor Services at The Principal, said in a statement that the guide can help employers "work with their financial professional to make informed decisions about changes that may be needed as a result of market unrest."
