AXA Distributors L.L.C. thinks Americans should wake up and smell the coffee, so it’s offering to buy them a cup.

To encourage reps who sell its annuities to initiate conversations with their clients about preparing for retirement, AXA Distributors is volunteering to buy both of them a grande latt? or other beverage of their choice.

To help consumers focus on retirement planning, AXA Distributors has also developed educational materials to ease the task.

Its educational materials examine sources of retirement income, including mutual funds, individual retirement accounts, pension plans, Social Security and employment. They also guide reps in figuring the expenses clients can anticipate in retirement.

Less than half of U.S. workers age 55 and up know how much income they will have in retirement, according to the company, a subsidiary of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, whose parent company is AXA S.A., Paris.
