Members of the Montana House have voted 95-4 to pass H.B. 764, a bill that would implement tougher financial services sales standards for representatives working with members of the armed services.

Insurance industry groups earlier opposed H.B. 542, another military sales bill, on the grounds that that bill was flawed and included provisions that could lead to inadvertent violations, such as a provision that would require reps to tell service members’ about their government-providied life insurance before having a chance to review the prospects’ actual coverage.

Montana lawmakers killed H.B. 542 and quickly replaced that bill with H.B. 764, a bill that now has the support of insurance industry groups.
