The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is giving some seniors more time to sign up for Medicare prescription drug plans.

The CMS says it will be extending the Medicare Part D open enrollment deadline to Feb. 15, 2007, from Dec. 31.

Other Part D enrollment programs are going well, CMS officials report.

Between the day the open enrollment period began, Nov. 15 and Dec. 27, the Medicare Online Enrollment Center has processed more than 280,000 enrollment applications, officials report.

More than 1 million seniors have attended in-store informational sessions hosted by CVS pharmacies, and Walgreens has hosted 34,000 in-store events, CMS officials estimate.
