A Cornhusker State insurer is trying to beautify its neighborhood.

Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, Omaha, Neb., is working with ECI Investment Advisors Inc., Chicago, to create a $250 million mixed-use development, Midtown Crossing at Turner Park, on Mutual of Omaha property located east of the company’s headquarters.

Midtown Crossing will include 7 buildings with a total of 200,000 square feet of restaurant, retail and entertainment space and 600 condominium and apartment units, according to Mutual of Omaha.

Mutual of Omaha hopes ECI, the developer, will complete construction by mid-2009.

The development property is now occupied mostly by vacant office buildings and parking lots, Mutual of Omaha says.
