Many U.S. employees enjoy choosing benefits and want to know more about their options.

Researchers at MetLife Inc., New York, have published data supporting those conclusions in a summary of an August survey of 1,204 workers age 18 and older who have at least some say in making benefits decisions for their households.

About 43% of employees say company open enrollment periods make them feel “responsible,” and only 3% say the periods annoy them, the researchers report.

About 71% of employees want employers to give them updates on their insurance protection options when they go through “significant life events,” such as marriage or divorce, the researchers report.

The researchers found that 66% of survey participants believe that worksite insurance products cost less than ordinary individual insurance products.
