Next year will mark Charlie Johnson’s 50th year with Franklin Resources and as manager of the Franklin Income Fund. In 1957 he joined the predecessor firm, Franklin Distributors, as president and CEO, after a three-year stint in the U.S. Army. He was Franklin Resources’ CEO until 2003, and remains chairman and director of the firm and some of the Franklin Templeton funds. He holds a Yale University BA in political science and economics.

Co-lead portfolio manager Ed Perks is head of the income team at Franklin Equity Group, and senior VP and portfolio manager for Franklin Advisors, Inc. Perks leads the day-to-day investment activities of the Franklin Income Fund. He co-leads Franklin Templeton Variable Insurance Products Income Securities Fund, and the SICAV version of the Franklin Income Fund. He has been with Franklin Templeton Investments since 1992. Perks is a CFA, and like Charlie Johnson, holds a BA from Yale University in political science and economics.
