Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance is changing the top leadership at a unit that runs operations in Chile, Hong Kong, Japan, Luxembourg and Chile.

MassMutual, Springfield, Mass., has named Elaine Sarsynski to succeed Elroy Chan as head of its MassMutual International division.

The division manages a network of 15,000 sales representatives.

Sarsynski, MassMutual’s chief administrative officer, will continue to hold that title, MassMutual says.

Roger Crandall, MassMutual’s chief investment officer, will continue to oversee Baring Asset Management Ltd. and other investment subsidiaries based outside the United States.

Chan, who has been managing director of MassMutual Asia Ltd. as well as head of MassMutual International, will continue to be managing director of MassMutual Asia, MassMutual says.

Chan also will serve as special advisor to MassMutual President Stuart Reese on “strategic business issues in Asia,” MassMutual says.

Chan came to MassMutual in 2000, when the company acquired CRC Protective Life Insurance Company Ltd., Hong Kong.
