A unit of AXA Financial Inc. is spearheading the formation of the Variable Annuities Knowledge Center, an independent, nonprofit Web site that will give consumers information about annuities and retirement planning issues.[@@]

Christopher Condron, chairman of AXA Financial, New York, says his company’s AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company unit has set up an independent board to oversee the VA knowledge center and is hoping other insurance industry organizations and retirement experts will contribute content to the site.
