Frederick Crawford will be succeeding Richard Vaughan as chief financial officer at Lincoln National Corp., Philadelphia.[@@]

Vaughan plans to retire in March 2005, Lincoln says.

Crawford has been Lincoln’s treasurer since January 2001. He previously was president of Bank One-Cincinnati, a unit of Bank One Corp., Chicago.

Crawford has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana State University and a master’s degree in business from the University of Iowa.

Lincoln also will be:

- Shifting Todd Stephenson to a “senior position focused on financial acquisitions in corporate planning and development” at Lincoln. Stephenson has been chief financial officer of Lincoln’s Lincoln National Life Insurance Company unit.

- Naming Michael Smith to be chief financial officer and chief risk officer at Lincoln National Life. Smith has been chief financial and chief administrative officer at the Lincoln Financial Distributors Inc. unit.

- Promoting Diane McCarthy to chief financial and chief administrative officer at Lincoln Financial Distributors. McCarthy has been the unit’s director, financial reporting and controls.
