N.C. Blue More Than Doubles Net Income

NU Online News Service, Nov. 14, 2003, 12:31 p.m. EST – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., is reporting $173 million in net income for the first three quarters of the year on $2.3 billion in revenue, up from $72 million in net income on $2.2 billion in revenue for the comparable period in 2002.

The nonprofit insurer ended the third quarter providing or administering medical coverage for 2.9 million people, up from 2.7 million people a year earlier.

Average premium revenue per insured member increased 10%, to $1,976.
