Anthem Reports Higher 1st Quarter Net Income

NU Online News Service, April 30, 2003, 12:04 p.m. EDT – Anthem Inc., Indianapolis, is reporting $192 million in net income for the first quarter on $4 billion in revenue, up from $100 million in net income on $2.7 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2002.

The health insurer ended 2002 providing or administering major medical coverage for 12 million people, up from 8.2 million people a year earlier.

Average premium revenue per fully insured member increased 5%, to $685.
