Trigon Reports Higher 2nd Quarter Net Income

NU Online News Service, Aug. 5, 4:55 p.m. – Trigon Healthcare Inc., Richmond, Va., is reporting $30 million in net income for the second quarter on $816 million in revenue, up from $26 million in net income on $723 million in revenue for the second quarter of 2001.

The managed care company ended the quarter providing or administering major medical coverage for 2.1 million people, about as many people as it covered a year earlier.

Average revenue for the company’s 1.1 million commercial members increased 12%, to $537 per member.

Trigon was recently acquired by a larger managed care company, Anthem Inc., Indianapolis. Anthem released Trigon’s results in a separate section alongside its own results. It says it was start combining Trigon’s financial results with its own starting with its third-quarter financial statements.
