Sierra Reports Higher Operating Income

NU Online News Service, Oct. 25, 3:48 p.m. – Sierra Health Services Inc., Las Vegas, a managed care company, is reporting a net loss of $7.6 million for the third quarter on $376 million in revenue, compared with $2.7 million in net income on $377 million in revenue for the third quarter of 2000.

Operating income, which excludes $12 million in restructuring costs related to the shutdown of some operations in Texas, increased to $4.1 million, from $2.7 million.

Insured commercial enrollment fell 9%, to 274,000; enrollment in plans administered for other organizations increased 6%, to 1 million; and total enrollment increased 2%, to 1.3 million. Average revenue per member fell 2%, to $290.
