12 Biggest U.S. Banks in 2023

At the end of 2023, the U.S. banking industry comprised some 4,800 commercial banks and savings institutions, according to ADV Ratings.

The 12 biggest entities held combined assets of around $17 trillion as of year-end.

U.S. banks are major job providers:  JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo together employ nearly one million workers in 43,470 branches across the country.

Several of them — JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Citigroup — will report their first quarter earnings on Friday, along with asset managers BlackRock and State Street.
