America’s Health Insurance Plans has picked Pat Geraghty to be its board chair for 2024.

As head of AHIP, a major health insurance company trade group, Geraghty will help shape state and federal legislation and regulations affecting about 18% of U.S. gross domestic product, including the rules for Medicare, Medicaid, commercial health insurance, disability insurance and long-term care insurance.

Geraghty is the CEO of GuideWell, the Jacksonville, Florida-based mutual insurance holding company that oversees the Blue Cross and Blue Shield carriers in Florida and Puerto Rico.

What it means: To get through the budget battles in Washington, AHIP has turned to a Florida man.

AHIP: Geraghty succeeds David Holmberg, the CEO of Highmark Health of Pittsburgh, who served as the chair of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association before taking over as the chair at AHIP.

Geraghty arrives as the group is operating under the leadership of Julie Simon Miller, an interim CEO, due to the departure of the previous CEO, Matt Eyles.

In other organizational leadership news: The Society of Financial Service Professionals has named Jesse Dogillo 2023-2024 president.

Dogillo holds the certified financial planner and chartered life underwriter professional designations, along with other designations.

As the principal and founder of Bay Area Financial Advisers, he provides financial advisory services for Silicon Valley residents.

He succeeds Ernest Guerriero as the FSP president.

Andrew Rinn is the new FSP president-elect.

The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, which recently combined with Life Happens, a financial services consumer outreach organization, has hired Brian Steiner to be Life Happens’ new executive director.

He succeeds Felicia Stafford, who stepped down in August 2022 after working for the organization since 2003.

Steiner has been president of United Wealth Advisors Group. Earlier, he was NAIFA’s vice president of business development and strategic partnerships.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors has elected Shigeru Ariizumi, an official in Japan’s Financial Services Agency of Japan, to be its executive committee chair.

Ariizumi, who has been the group’s vice chair, succeeds Vicky Saporta, a prudential policy official with the Bank of England.

Jonathan Dixon continues to be the IAIS secretary general.
