Chase Trading Glitches Reported, Firm Says Problem Resolved

Some investors reported trouble executing trades on the Chase app and online platform on Monday, but the company said the problems had been resolved.

“We’re processing trades as usual now after clients weren’t able to complete some trades earlier today,” a JPMorgan spokesman told ThinkAdvisor via email shortly before noon Eastern time.

Downdetector, an online service that tracks outages at financial institutions, websites and cable and internet providers, indicated it had received about 66 problem reports regarding Chase shortly before 11 a.m., compared with a baseline of four.

Nearly three-quarters of the reports involved trading issues, according to Downdetector, where one person posted that they couldn’t buy or sell their options.

On X, formerly Twitter, a user posted around 11:45 a.m. that she was experiencing issues buying stocks on the Chase app and received an “order could not be sent” message. Another X user reported earlier he couldn’t buy or sell an option and was experiencing long phone wait times with Chase in an effort to get a person to execute a trade.

Another posted that he couldn’t close his options positions, received the same can’t-be-sent message and that Chase had cost him “several thousand already.” Yet another X user warned others that the Chase online trading platform was down, then followed up that he was able to “close out” with a representative on the phone after a lengthy wait time — and vowed not to trade on Chase again.

The problem reports on Downdetector had subsided to just two by 12:15 Eastern.

In June, Chase online customers complained their accounts had been hit with duplicate transactions, including including double debits for fees and rent payments, and drained balances. The bank said it was reversing incorrect transactions and issuing refunds.
