Talcott Financial has picked Michael Smith — the former chief financial officer of Voya Financial — to be its new chairman.

The Hamilton, Bermuda-based life reinsurer has $130 billion in assets under management and ties to Sixth Street, a private equity firm.

Imran Siddiqui continues to be Talcott’s interim president.

Smith worked for Lincoln Financial for 12 years before moving to Voya in 2009. At Voya, he held titles such as CEO of annuity manufacturing and interim chief risk officer for the top-level company.

He became Voya’s CFO in 2016.

He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and he holds the Chartered Financial Analyst professional designation.
