Jerry Blair to Lead Sammons Life Business: Personnel Moves

Sammon Financial Group has picked Jerry Blair to be the next president of its Sammons Life Insurance Group division.

Blair will succeed Steve Palmitier, the current president of the life business, who is retiring.

Sammons has two subsidiaries that write life insurance: Midland National and North American Company for Life and Health Insurance.

Blair began working for Sammons in 2005 and became the life business chief distribution officer in 2019.

Before that, he spent about eight years at Transamerica.

Blair holds the LIMRA Leadership Institute Fellow and chartered financial consultant professional designations.

Other companies in the life, health and annuity markets also have executive hire news this week.

Transamerica

Transamerica has hired David Curry to be the chief distribution officer of its individual solutions division.

Curry has been national sales director for Lincoln Financial Group.

He will oversee the Transamerica distribution teams for individual annuities and mutual funds as well as for individual life insurance.

Curry spent about 17 years at Lincoln Financial.

He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.

Truist/Crump Life

Truist has named Rob Carney to be the CEO of its Crump Life Insurance Services division, and Michael Martini to be the division’s president.

Carney is also the CEO of CRC Insurance Services, the Truist unit that oversees Crump Life and other Truist life, retirement and benefits businesses.

Carney has been working for Crump Life since 2004, and he has been the president of Crump Life for five years. Earlier in his career, he worked for AT&T and Prudential Financial.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers and a master’s degree in business from Seton Hall.

Martini has been the president of McGriff, a retail insurance broker owned by Truist.

Martini has been with companies that are now part of Truist since 2002. Before that, he worked for Reuters America and Dow Jones Telerate.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Miami University.

AmeriHealth Caritas

AmeriHealth Caritas — a Medicaid plan carrier — has hired Mark Grippi to be market president for its Ohio Medicaid plan, AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio.

Starting in July 2022, AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio will be one of seven health plans serving Ohio’s Medicaid managed care program.

Grippi previously was the chief operating officer for Aetna’s Louisiana Medicaid plan.

He has also worked for other health insurers and care providers, including CareSource, which is based in Ohio.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University.
