A new state insurance regulator panel will be looking at how it should address matters related to race, diversity, inclusion and fairness in the insurance sector.
The Special Committee on Race and Insurance, an arm of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), is preparing to hold a two-hour open meeting starting at 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Sept. 17.

The NAIC plans to stream the committee meeting live on the web.
Special committee members have developed a list of charges that includes analyzing the level of diversity and inclusion in the insurance industry; talking to a wide range of people about issues related to race, diversity, and inclusion in the insurance industry, and to access to insurance products; examining insurance sector barriers that could “potentially disadvantage people of color and/or historically underrepresented groups”; and giving the NAIC ideas about what to do.
The committee is supposed to provide recommendations for the health insurance and life and annuity sectors as well as for the property and casualty sector.
