Advisors now can learn from other specialist advisors and consultants in key areas of their business practice through a new website offering by the Financial Planning Association. The FPA Coaches Corner, open to all FPA members, provides thought-leadership white papers, video presentations, webinars, and soon, podcasts, on different FP exercises, such as marketing, team development, cybersecurity, compliance and growth strategies.

“We want to make sure our members are armed with the tools they need to not only be highly skilled in the practice of financial planning, but also in the business of financial planning,” said FPA Executive Director and CEO Lauren M. Schadle.

Launched March 30, the site provides more in depth training for advisors with its Coaches Corner. For example, Stephanie Bogan of Educe Inc., a consultant and executive coach, focuses on the financial planner’s mindset. Her module includes a video presentation on the five freedoms that can help advisors gain the right mindset to achieve their goals, as well as a three-part white paper, and a link to webinars she has created.

Other inaugural educators include Todd Sakoda and John Carr, both principals at The Consortium, a compliance consultant that focuses on RIA compliance operations, relationship management, business development and client services. Their section provides several videos as well as compliance checklist tools.

Krista Sheets and Sarah Dale, founders of Performance Insights, focus on team development and their segment includes videos covering how to select the best team members. Also included are articles on best practices such as “Team Communication Plan,” “How the Workload Capacity Gap Controls a Financial Planning Business,” and a questionnaire to help financial planners determine their staffing needs.

For cybersecurity, Brian Edelman, CEO of FCI, presents videos outlining what planners have to do to be protected from cyber theft and includes several papers to aid advisors in ascertaining their security needs.

Rounding out the group are Susan and Adam Kornegay, of Pathfinder Strategic Solutions, who focus on marketing strategies, and Mike Byrnes, of Byrnes Consulting, who provides several videos, such as “A Simple Way to Grow” and “A Plan for Future Growth,” as well as other informational articles.

Most of these advisors provide a free consultation if advisors want to go deeper into the subject matter. Podcasts are now being created and should be rolled out over next few months, said an FPA spokesperson.
