Mehul Mistry, a senior advisor at Secure Planning Strategies, is an expert at assisting families with special-needs children, helping them create the unique estate and financial plans that such families require. Mistry is one of three winners of Envestnet’s inaugural Essential Advisor awards, which were announced at its annual conference in May.

Envestnet designed the Essential Advisor Certification Program with help from Cannon Financial Institute, Inc. to help advisors guide clients through important investment decisions. The program builds on values outlined in a book co-authored by Envestnet President Bill Crager, “The Essential Advisor:  Building Value in the Investor-Advisor Relationship.”

The awards recognize advisors who bring those values to their practice. They were selected by a panel of Envestnet executives based on qualitative and subjective surveys and nominations from regional directors.

“Part of being a planner is being a psychologist, being a counselor, sometimes being a parent to our clients,” Mistry told former Editor-in-Chief Jamie Green at the conference in May. “Sometimes what we end up doing is protecting them from themselves, but at the same time, being objective [and] making sure they’re not going to make an emotional decision that can impair the achievement of their goals.”
