Essential Advisor Bill Shiffman on Being Proactive

Bill Schiffman, president of Schiffman | Grow & Co., is a CPA who co-founded the firm in 1985 and helped it add investing services in 2000. Schiffman is one of three winners of Envestnet’s inaugural Essential Advisor awards, which were announced at its annual conference in May.

Envestnet designed the Essential Advisor Certification Program with help from Cannon Financial Institute, Inc. to help advisors guide clients through important investment decisions. The program builds on values outlined in a book co-authored by Envestnet President Bill Crager, “The Essential Advisor:  Building Value in the Investor-Advisor Relationship.”

The awards recognize advisors who bring those values to their practice. They were selected by a panel of Envestnet executives based on qualitative and subjective surveys and nominations from regional directors.

“Coming out of an accounting background, most accountants are reactive,” Schiffman told former Editor-in-Chief Jamie Green at the conference in May. “We take a proactive approach to tax planning, business consulting and financial services as well. We try to stay half a step ahead of our clients whenever possible.”
