Forty percent of U.S. households haven’t bought life insurance — or more of it — because they’re unsure of how much or what type to buy, according to Life Happens. Even more frightening, findings from LIMRA state, even though half of households know they need more, only 10 percent will actually purchase protection. This is just one of the reasons September is Life Insurance Awareness Month.
We honor LIAM in
this month’s issue of
National Underwriter Life & Health magazine by featuring
the touching personal story of a New Jersey-based financial advisor who lost 51 clients during the 9/11 attacks and, subsequently, delivered life insurance payouts to 30 widows.
David Buckwald’s life was forever changed, and his belief in life insurance forever strengthened. This is a deeply moving story to share with your clients.
In my opinion, it’s a shame we only focus seriously on life insurance one month out of the year. Considering it’s a product that helps so many families during the untimely death of a breadwinner — including the children of so many 9/11 victims — every month deserves to be Life Insurance Awareness Month.
How do you support LIAM and take the extra step to educate your clients about life insurance? I welcome your comments at
