Health Insurance Innovations hires president

A short-term health insurance distributor has hired two top executives.

Tampa, Florida-based Health Insurance Innovations has brought in Gavin Southwell to be its president and Josef Denother to be its chief operating officer.

Patrick McNamee, the company’s president and chief executive officer, will continue to be the CEO, but he will give up the title of president, the company says in a report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In addition to selling and distributing short-term health insurance, Health Insurance Innovations sells accident insurance, hospital indemnity plans, dental insurance, dental discount plans and critical illness insurance. The company focuses on products outside the scope of the Affordable Care Act rules that apply to major medical coverage.

Southwell has been working as a consultant at Health Insurance Innovations since April. From 2009 to January 2016, he was the chief operations officer at Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford, a wholesale and reinsurance brokerage firm. He has also been the risk manager at Beazley, a Lloyd’s insurer.

He will start with an annual salary of $350,000 and will receive a $50,000 signing bonus.
