The full House Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a hearing on “The Tax Treatment of Health Care” for 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 14.

Hearing participants will “examine how the tax code affects our health care system,” according to a hearing notice put out by Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, the chairman of the committee.

Brady does not say in the notice which topics the hearing witnesses might cover.

In recent weeks, members of Congress have talked about the possibility of killing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) “Cadillac plan tax,” a tax to be imposed on high-cost health plans; administration of the PPACA advance premium tax credit (APTC) program; whether the private insurers that administer managed Medicaid programs should have to pay the PPACA health insurer fee; and the status of the health savings account (HSA) program.

In the past, both Republican and Democratic budget deficit fighters have talked about the possibility of eliminating or reducing the group health premium federal income tax exclusion.

In a statement, Brady says the U.S. tax code should make “health care more accessible and affordable for all Americans.”

“We must work together to reform current tax policies so they are simpler, flatter, fairer and help our economy grow,” Brady says in the statement.
