Managers of HealthCare.gov are continuing to establish relationships with more commercial health insurance brokerage firms.

The public health insurance exchange enrollment and administration system now has 87 firms on its list of registered Web broker entities (WBEs). That’s up about 10 percent from January, when it had 79 WBEs on the list.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) set up HealthCare.gov to provide Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) exchange services in states that are unwilling or unable to provide the services themselves.

The Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO), part of the HHS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), runs HealthCare.gov.

Four of the newcomers appear to be regional firms. One, Benefitstore, is a unit of Benefitfocus, a major health insurance technology services company.

Another, ValuePenguin Inc., is a New York-based startup that offers consumers help with shopping for a wide range of financial services, including credit cards, auto insurance and homeowners insurance.
