The costliest diseases in the U.S. [infographic]

As an insurance agent or broker, do you know the costliest health-related conditions in the United States? A recent article and accompanying infographic from insurance quoting website InsuranceClarity.com offers a glimpse into the illnesses that are costing Americans the most pain in their wallets.

Pulling stats from 2014, the article states that Americans spent an estimated $3.1 trillion in health care for that year. In their findings, the top three most expensive diseases are heart disease, diabetes and smoking-related diseases. Likewise, heart disease is the No. 1 leading cause of death in adults (followed by cancer in second place and chronic lower respiratory diseases listed as third), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
