Morgan Stanley said Wednesday that it has named former Schwab exec Naureen Hassan to head the newly created position of Chief Digital Officer for Wealth Management.

In her new post at Morgan Stanley, Hassan will lead the strategy and marketing of digital tools and platforms serving the brokerage firm’s 16,000 financial advisors and 3.5 million clients.

She most recently served as Charles Schwab’s executive vice president of Investment Services Segments and Platforms, where she led Schwab Intelligent Portfolios and oversaw client experience and web and mobile channels.

Jim Rosenthal, Morgan Stanley’s chief operating officer, said in a statement that Hassan’s “record of successful innovation bringing exceptional digital resources to financial advisors and clients will sharpen our ability to compete for today’s high-net-worth individuals as well as those emerging in the next generation.”

Hassan added that her strategy is to help advisors build on their success in getting Morgan Stanley to $2 trillion in client assets by combining “the wisdom and insight of a human financial advisor with sophisticated digital technology that can help drive performance and enable clients to access services when and how they want.”

Morgan Stanley’s chief information officer, Chris Randazzo, said the brokerage firm is now focused on developing “new digital resources that can make our financial advisors more productive and enhance convenience and ease-of-use for clients, along with tracking financial performance in line with their goals.”

Hassan has also held a succession of executive positions, including chief operating officer of Charles Schwab Bank, since joining the company in 2003.

She holds a B.A. degree from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
