This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Lewis Ferguson was reappointed to a second term on the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; Eric Weis went to Armanino LLP, Allianz Life promoted James Nelson; and the Phoenix Cos. named Gina Collopy O’Connell chief risk officer.

O’Connell Named Chief Risk Officer at Phoenix Cos.
The Phoenix Cos., Inc. has announced that Gina Collopy O’Connell has been named chief risk officer. She will report to James Wehr, president and chief executive officer, and succeed Mark Griffin, who is resigning from the company effective July 17.
O’Connell, currently senior vice president, financial planning and analysis, has held positions in numerous areas of responsibility, and will continue to serve as a senior advisor to the actuarial student program. She joined in 1985 as an actuarial assistant.
SEC Taps Ferguson Again for PCAOB Term
The Securities and Exchange Commission has reappointed Lewis Ferguson to a second term on the PCAOB, which will run until October 2019.
Ferguson was first appointed to the PCAOB in January 2011 and served as its first general counsel from 2004 to 2007. Before that, he was a partner in the law firm of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He was a partner at the law firm of Williams & Connolly LLP from 1979 to 1994 and again from 1998 to 2004. From 1994 to 1998, he was senior vice president, general counsel and drector of Wright Medical Technology.
Weis Joins Armanino
Accounting and business consulting firm Armanino LLP has announced that Eric Weis has joined as consulting partner in the firm’s firm’s governance, risk and compliance practice.
Before joining, he was a partner at Crowe Horwath. He has also held a variety of governance, risk and compliance roles at Deloitte, PwC and Ernst & Young.
Nelson Advances at Allianz Life
Allianz Life Insurance Co. of North America has promoted James Nelson to VP, legal business operations and product development. He will report directly to Gretchen Sepek, SVP and general counsel.
Nelson joined 2011. Earlier, he was in private practice and held various counsel and general counsel roles at KMG America, Thrivent Financial and ING.
Kirk, Wells Named by U.S. Bank Wealth Management
U.S. Bank Wealth Management has announced that Jim Kirk has been appointed wealth management advisor for the Private Client Reserve in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jamie Wells was named director of wealth planning for Ascent Private Capital Management’s center for wealth impact in Denver, Colorado.
